I was really hesitant to read a book written about the LGBTQ+ community by someone who does not identify as LGBTQ+. I read the first few pages with skepticism, ready to poke holes in the book. And... After serving as Education Director at the Out Alliance of Rochester, New York, Jeannie founded Savvy Ally Action, a small business that creates accessible, encouraging written and video resources to help people become effective LGBTQ+ allies. She also serves as co-coordinator of Ride 4 Pride, Rochester's annual bike ride fundraiser benefiting the LGBTQ+ communities. Jeannie has a BA in psychology from Brown University and an MA in social work and social research from Bryn Mawr College. Her work has been recognized with the Empire State Pride Agenda's Community Champion Award (2015), the Rochester LGBTQ Community Appreciation Award (2019), a citation from the New York State Assembly for Distinguished Educational & Human Rights Services for advancing LGBTQ+ rights and inclusion (2019), a certificate of recognition from the Rochester City Council for her service to LGBTQ+ communities (2024), and the Center for Youth's Chuck Cuminale Youth Advocate Award (2026). Jeannie lives in Rochester, N.Y. with her husband Ed.
